automatic Thumbnails creation (J4 dev Version)

Dirk67's Avatar Dirk67
Hi Peter,
I'm testing the Version: "Modals v11.11.2-dev2506062 [PRO]"
My thumbnail generation settings are like in this picture

but the thumbs that are generated are 320x60px (no automatic height scaling)

I just want to mention ... (I know that's a very early dev version "alpha")

and in the modals popup itself (the big original picture) the width is scaled automatically with the viewport but not the height ...

Correct. I am still working on the width/height settings.

I use v12.0.0-dev2516420 now and the automatic Thumbnails generation works correct now.

But if I click on a thumbnail the (automatic) title is shown above, and the auto-slideshow is running,
while both of this features are disabled in the backend settigs.

and this is still not working:
and in the modals popup itself (the big original picture) the width is scaled automatically with the viewport but not the height ...

now it works as expected

except:
and in the modals popup itself (the big original picture) the width is scaled automatically with the viewport but not the height ...
but I think it's known

the initial (first open) modal popup sizes are correct,
but then changing the viewport has no effect, the modal or image is not dynamically resized (is not "responsive")
(but displays scrollbars instead)

we discussed the very same thing already almost three years ago

v12.0.0-dev2524139 -> now it's working the other way around:
the very first opening of the modal opens the picture in the full width of the viewport,
accidently cutting off the under half of a portrait orientated picture.

then if if I change the the viewport size for the first time,
suddenly everything pops into the right size and aspect ratio,
and stays this way ...

another question:
is the gallery functionality already fully implemented ?
(showing all thumbnails of a given subdirectory)

showing all thumbnails of a given subdirectory
Yes, that should work.
Try:
{modal gallery="..." thumbnails="all"}{/modal}

it's still the same with v12.0.0-dev2525159

clear the joomla cache & clear the browers cache,
and "the very first opening of the modal opens the picture in the full width of the viewport,
accidently cutting off the under half of a portrait orientated picture..."

tested with firefox & MS edge (chromium)

how did you test it successfully ?

Think it should be fixed now in the latest dev:

seems to work now ...

but within a gallery (e.g. 50 pics):
there occurs high processor load when resizing the viewport during a modal is opened -> seems that the java script recalculates all(?) the pics in the background ?
(did not experience this with other pop-up/lightbox solutions so far)
this leads to a visible "delay time" (some seconds) on a mobile phone when turning over the mobile 90 degree / flipping it from portrait to landscape view during a modal is opened (and being within a gallery with many pics) ...

another thing #1:
in a gallery there is shown {none} as a clear text, on the places where should be the separator

in the modals backend settings is is written explanatory:

another thing #2:
with the classic theme the behaviour "Close on Outside Click" does not work anymore.
(has worked in previous betas, I think)

another thing #3:
maybe as an option in backend-settings:
is it possible to turn off the "dots" underneath each modal picture,
that indicate the number of the Pictures and at the same time works as a link to the pictures...
(IMHO: on small screens it wastes too much precious screen-space unter the pic - e.g. when you have 50 pics in a gallery)
In the current Modals for J3 there is just a small number indicator (1/4, 2/4, 3/4, ...) within(!) the picture, wasting no space and let the picture (the modal) be almost as big as the screen is ...

here a mobile view as an example (android / chrome):

Regarding #3:
There is now an option to set the Pagination to 'Text' (like: 12 / 50) or hide it completely.

You can also override the global setting by placing one of these in the {modal} tag:
pagination="buttons"
pagination="text"
pagination="none"

I tested with v12.0.0-dev2525285 now

#1
works now.

#2
with the classic theme the behaviour "Close on Outside Click" does not work anymore.
this still does not work with classic theme

#3
There is now an option to set the Pagination to 'Text' (like: 12 / 50) or hide it completely.
I can find a setting in the backend with "Show Pagination" => NO,
unfortunately it has no effect (pagination still visible (the "dots" underneath the pic)).
I can not find a setting in the backend to set the Pagination to 'Text' (?)

everything works with the v12.0.0-dev2525995 pro 👍

I still have wishes about the text pagination though,
(still takes away precious space underneath the picture (compared to the J3 Version))
but this will be another thread later ... 😉
