Hi,

I can not get the geolocation working. When I add a module for a another country, it still is showing in my country. Doesn't matter which other country I try. Probably I do something wrong. Can you help me? All extensions and Joomla are up tot date. I use GeoIP and Advanced module manager. By example I use Module in Article to show a module for only Great Britain but is still showing in The Netherlands.

Thank you very much Peter.

Greetings Kees

So you are using Modules Anywhere in the mix?
Switch off the "Ignore Assignments" in the Modules Anywhere system plugin settings.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your fast reply.
I think that worked. Not easy to check 🙂 but I think this works.

Thanks a lot.

Hi
Where is the GeoIP database kept?
Is it updated regularly or is it up to the user to update it?

Thanks,
Avi

The 'database' is stored in a file on your server. It will be updated every time you install/update the GeoIP extension. And every time you manually update it via the plugin.
This will not be done automatically.

Hi,
I run my own server.
Can you tell me the directory where the database file resides, so that I can write a script to update it regularly.

Thanks,
Rokkhit.

See the library/geoip folder.

Hi,
MaxMind has recently changed their policy on GeoLite2 database distribution.
Please refer to the following:

blog.maxmind.com/2019/12/18/significant-...-geolite2-databases/

As far as Regular Lab's GeoIP extension is concerned, should we have make any changes?
Or, is it business as usual?

BTW, please note that on my system, the GeoLite2-City.mmdb database has not been updated since November 26th.

Regards,
Rokkhit

I have just pretty much finished the new version, which requires a MaxMind user account and License Key to be able to use it.

You can test it out here:

Hi,
I have just tried the new version.
Unfortunately, it does not work properly yet.
I have already created an account and received a license key from MaxMind.
Therefore, I input the license key and the specific space and tried to Sync, but it produced the following error:

Notice: Undefined index: last-modified in /home/linuxhappy/public_html/plugins/system/geoip/helpers/updater.php on line 103

**We have no place to input our Account ID on the new version. Is that OK? Just checking...

Please advise.

Regards,
Rokkhit

The license key is enough. No need for the Account ID.

Please try the new development version from:

The new version of GeoIP has been released.
This now requires the MaxMind License Key.
